Plot Development

Chapter 7

Gatsby has stopped throwing parties because he noticed that Daisy was not happy at his last one and he has been throwing parties to try and get her attention but it did not work. Gatsby even fired all his servants. One day Nick goes to Tom and Daisy's house for lunch and when he gets there he sees that Jordan and Gatsby have been invited as well. Gatsby cannot hide his love for Daisy and Tom has noticed this and watches Gatsby carefully. Daisy has an idea to go N.Y.C so the 5 of them drive there. Nick, Jordan, and Tom go together driving in Gatsby's car while Gatsby and Daisy drive in Tom's car. On the way to N.Y.C Nick, Jordan and Tom stop at George Wilson's garage to get gas. George tell them that he has caught his wife, Myrtle,  having an affair but he does not know who the man is. Once the group meets up in N.Y.C they decide to stay at a hotel for the afternoon. At the hotel Tom gets into an Argument with Gatsby and calls him out for acting fake and says his money comes from crime and bootlegging. Gatsby replies by saying that Daisy is not in love with Tom but instead in love with him. Gatsby wants Daisy to admit it that she is in love with him not Tom but Daisy can only reply by saying she once loved Gatsby but is now in love with Tom. Gatsby angrily grabs Daisy to take her to his car and drive home. Nick, Jordan, and Tom leave soon after. They stop to find out about an accident that they noticed on their way back home. A car accident had occurred outside George Wilson's garage. Myrtle was the victim of this accident and was dead on impact. Witnesses say it was a yellow car that hit Myrtle and it just kept driving. Nick realises it was Gatsby`s car because it fits all the descriptions. Tom assumes that Gatsby was the driver and now he has even more hatred toward Gatsby. Tom drives Jordan home and then drives to his house and calls a cab to pick up Nick. Tom goes inside to talk to his wife about the accident and Nick waits outside for the cab. While outside Nick finds Gatsby hiding in the bushes watching to make sure Tom does not harm Daisy. Gatsby admits to Nick that Daisy was driving his car when it hit Myrtle but says he will take the blame. Gatsby tell Nick to go to the window to see what is happening inside but Tom and Daisy are just sitting at the kitchen table. The cab comes to pick up nick and Gatsby is left standing alone in the moonlight.
