The Purpose of this blog is to write about plot, character, and theme developement while I read the novel, "The Great Gatsby", by F.Scott Fitzgerald. My intent of this blog is to write a summary of each chapter, describe how the characters change throughout the novel and connect the main theme to the real world. Chapter 1 Plot Development

Nick Carraway has moved from Minnesota to a part of New York City called West Egg during the summer of 1922. He is renting a house next to a weird mansion owned by Jay Gatsby. Nick shows interest in this mansion and is curious about the owner. One night Nick drives to East Egg to have dinner and catch up with his old friend Tom, who is also married to his cousin Daisy. Daisy introduces Nick to her friend Jordan Baker. During dinner Tom leaves to answer the phone and shortly after Daisy goes to the other room to see what the call was regarding. While alone at the table, Jordan tells Nick that the caller is a women that Tom is having an affair with from N.Y.C. Daisy and Tom return to the table where they finish dinner and catch up on each others lives. Jordan decides to leave because it is getting late and she has to get up early for her tennis tournament the next morning. Nick leaves shortly after. on his way out, daisy hints that he should date Jordan. Nick drives back home and decides to sit outside for a bit and watch the stars. Nick notices that Gatsby is standing outside on his lawn looking out into the water. Gatsby is looking across at a green light on the end of Daisy's dock. Nick views Gatsby as a mysterious man and is curious why he is looking at the green light.
